Cape Eagle Owls

The Cape Eagle Owls are back in Prince Albert and back in Durbanville. In Prince Albert one of the pair has been spotted sitting in the road, under the street light, right outside my parents house and at home one sat on the beams outside our neighbour's garage on Monday at midnight. He/She was so beautiful, I could see it's pointed ears in the moonlight. As I approached it flew away but I know we'll see them again this season.

A day at home

Today is Arno's birthday and I've spent most of the day putting together the meal for this evening. Contrary to expert advice I'm trying a new dish for every course of the meal tonight. One of them is done; roasted tomatoes and red peppers in a marinade of anchovy, olive oil from Prince Albert - obtainable at a few places in the town and with a painting by the late Alf Gundersen on the tin, thinly sliced garlic, harissa paste and balsamic vinegar.Tomatoes drenched in marinade, as Jamie would say.. happy days!

LAATHERFS

Die dag krimp. Die klok lui stroophelder.
Die ouspens is boordens vol bottels.
Vonkend ver val die laaste blare
in goue stiltes, kry vergete
boeppense wyn baard in die kelder.
Die knus kombuis is skepvol skottels
heuning, room en deeg. Voƫls in pare
verlaat hul neste onder geute.

Die bloed raak dun in die are,
in die mik verdor die bruin vy.
Reeds voelbaar winter se venyn,
die yl musiek van die snare.
Nou raak ook woorde skaars. Verby
met liefde, kort seisoen van pyn.

AUTUMN

Today is the first day of this blog. No followers, just me. As I write this post I can see through the open doors of our bedroom's balcony that the leaves of the oak trees are falling to the ground. Autumn. The sun is rising just after 7am in the morning and setting after 6pm in the evening. Soon I'll be arriving home in the dark after a long commute, ready to snuggle up in front of the log fire after dinner.
